Chapter 12

James stirred from his sleep. He saw a small figure standing beside his bed. "Is uncle James awake now?" asked Sophie. He nodded. Sophie immediately wrapped her tiny arms around James' waist. "Uncle James, Sophie is hungry...." the little girl murmured. "Where's your mama?" James asked. "She's still sleeping..." Sophie replied. James carried the little girl. "Come on, I'll make you some breakfast. Do you want some pancakes?" James said. The little girl clapped her hands cutely. "I want some chocolate chips pancake uncle," the little girl said with a sweet smile.

Nanonood ang mga kasambahay ng mga Reid kung paano nagluluto ang amo nila. Nakakunot ang noo na nagfi-flip ng pancakes si James. Ng magawa nya ito ng paayos, natuwa at pumalakpak naman si Sophie. Tuwang tuwa ang bata ng ma-flip ni James ng maganda ang pancake. "You know uncle, I wanted to have a little sister. But since my real mama is not here, I can't have a little sister. But mama Devon promised me that she'll give me a little sister someday," Sophie suddenly said habang kumakain sila. Halos mabulunan si James sa sinabi ni Sophie.

Kumakain na sina James at Sophie ng magising si Devon. "Mama!" sigaw ni Sophie at binigyan ng yakap si Devon. "Good morning baby. Did you slept well last night?" tanong ni Devon. "Yes mama. Mama, uncle James made me some breakfast!" sabi ni Sophie with a smile. "Aahhh... I'm sorry James," sabi ni Devon, looking down. "It's okay," sabi ni James. Ngumiti si Devon. "Join us for breakfast. We can't consume all these pancakes," James said to Devon. Devon sat down and ate breakfast with Sophie and James. They looked like one big family.

James is busy studying when he heard a knock on his door. "Come in!" Devon opened the door. "What do you want? Can't you see I'm busy?" galit na tanong ni James. "Uh, sorry for bothering you. Sophie and I will just go to the carnival. I'm wondering if you would like to join us..?" Devon asked shyly. "I don't have time to do stupid things! And I'm done babysitting your friend's kid," sigaw ni James. Devon slumped in defeat. She felt tears forming in her orbs. "S-sorry for bothering you," Devon said and went out of the room.

At the carnival, Devon and Sophie, with Lauren and Kyra, are having fun. The carnival was wonderful. There are colorful lights, rides and many booths. "Mama, I'm thirsty," sabi ni Sophie. "Let's buy some drinks over there," yaya ni Lauren at Kyra. The three went to buy drinks. She smiled to herself as she saw Sophie waving.

Then something caught her eyes. It was him with his friends and Ann. He's wearing his most casual clothes and his arm is around Ann's shoulders.

Despite the crowd at the carnival, Devon can still see James' figure clearly. "Buti naman nakangiti na sya, sayang nga lang yung ngiti nya hindi para sa akin," bulong ni Devon sa sarili. "Yo.." Ivan popped out of nowhere. "One day, you're gonna give me a heart attack," Devon murmured but Ivan heard her. "You're here by yourself?" tanong ni Devon kay Ivan. "Nope. I'm with James and crew," Ivan chuckeled. "Well, why are you here then?" tanong ni Devon. "Eh, they're old enough to handle themselves. And I wanted to greet you," sagot ni Ivan. "Mama!" Sophie screamed. "Mama!?" Ivan asked, his eyes round with surprise. "That's my friend's child," Devon said and then she explained her and Sophie's situation. "Are you mama and papa's friend?" Sophie asked Ivan with her cute smile. "He's mama's friend darling," sabi ni Devon. "Devon, I have to go now. There's an emergency," sabi ni Kyra with a panicked look on her face. "What's wrong?" tanong ni evon, nag-aalala sa kaibigan. "Don't worry about it. I just have to get home fast," sabi ni Kyra. "Devs, ako rin. Grandma had a heart attack," sabi ni Lauren, maiyak-iyak. Devon hugged her friend. "Take care okay? I'll pray for Grandma," bulong ni Lauren sa kaibigan. Umalis na sina Lauren at Kyra.

"Mama, who is he?" Sophie asked. "He's uncle Ivan baby," sagot ni Devon. "Is he a friend of uncle James, too?" tanong ng bata. Tumango lang si Devon.

"Ivan, I can carry her myself," Devon said as she tug on Ivan's shirt. "It's okay. You're so thin, I really doubt that you can carry Sophie," sagot ni Ivan with a smirk.

*flashback*
"Mama! I want that teddy!" sabi ni Sophie while pointing at a huge pink teddy bear. The three went to the stall.

"Thank you uncle," sabi ni Sophie kay Ivan. Ivan had to play a few times bago nya nakuha ang teddy bear. But it was all worth it, kasi nakita nyang nakangiti sina Sophie at Devon.

*flashback end*

"Thank you Ivan, really. You made Sophie very happy today," sabi ni Devon. "Come on, you must be tired," sabi ni Ivan at hinatid na nya ang dalawa sa bahay.

He saw her. All throughout the night, her face flashes through her mind. Seeing her with Ivan, he didn't know what to do. Gusto nyang lapitan ang dalawa, gusto nyang komprontahin, pero di sumusunod ang katawan nya sa sinasabi ng utak nya. And alam din nya na dapat na na-kay Ann ang pagtingin nya. He should find Ann's reaction cute. He should see her cute when she asks him to do task in booths. Pero imbis na yun ang makita nya, ang tanging nakikita nya ay ang pangungulit at pang-iinarte ni Ann. "Since when did I started to compare Ann to her....." bulong ni James sa sarili.
