Chapter 5

One night, James arrived at the condo, drunk. He found Ann kissing a guy, and he went to the nearest bar to drink. "James!" Devon screamed. James passed out in her arms. "Ay jusko!" sabi ni Devon. Hinatak ni Devon si James hanggang sala. Inihiga nya si James sa sofa. "Ano ba naman ang lalaking to. Iinom-inom, di naman pala nya kaya," sabi ni Devon sa hangin. Kumuha si Devon ng towel at basin na nilagyan nya ng tubig. Pupunasan sana ni Devon si James nang biglang syang niyakap nito. "Ann. How could you do this to me? You said you love me. You know I love you," he said. Biglang lumabas na naman ang awa ni Devon sa binata. Pinilit nyang kumawala sa yakap ni James. Pero dahil mas malakas ang binata, hindi makawala si Devon. Kaya natulog silang dalawa sa sofa, ng magkayakap.

James woke up, his head pounding. "Ugh," he moaned. He felt something warm. "Devon?" he murmured. He remembered something. Ann kissing this random dude. Then Devon pulling him to the sofa. "Shit, I thought Devon was Ann," he murmured. He thought about pushing Devon, but he felt guilty. Devon took care of him. James sighed. "I will be nice, just this once," he murmured to himself then he went back to sleep.

Devon woke up. "Jusko, dito na pala ako nakatulog," isip ni Devon. Dahan-dahan syang tumayo sa kinahihigaan at ginawa ang kanyang daily routine. Nagluto na rin sya ng breakfast. Tamang-tama ang gising ni James, dahil handa na ang agahan ng magising ito. "Thank you," sabi ni James kay Devon. Muntikan nang malaglag ni Devon ang hawak na plato sa pagkagulat. Ngayon lang sya pinasalamatan; at kinausap ni James. Ngumiti ang dalaga at tinuloy ang ginagawa.

"Good mood ka ata Devs," sabi ng kaibigan ni Devon na si Kyra. Nasa mall sila, naglalabas ng stress. "Tama. Glowing ka," sabi naman ni Lauren. "Si James kasi eh," sabi ni Devon. "What did my brother do to you ate? Did he raped you?" biglang sulpot ni Carina. "Sorry, I overheard your conversation," paghihngi ng paumanhin ni Carina, sa biglang pagpasok sa usapan ng tatlo. "It's okay. Nah, he said 'thank you' to me for the first time yesterday," sabi ni Devon. "Really? You guys are improving," sabi ni Carina. "Sweet naman," sabi ni Kyra. "Nah, my brother? Sweet? That's like saying that vinegar is sweet. My brother, he's a grumpy old man," sabi ni Carina. "Carina! Let's go," sabi ng kaibigan ni Carina. "My friend AJ is calling me. I have to go, see you guys soon," Carina said then she left. "Tara Devs, Lo, kain tayong ice cream," yaya ni Kyra. "Hey Devon," biglang sabi ng isang pamilyar na boses. "Ivan!" Devon said, smiling. "I haven't seen you in a long time. I never see you around campus," Devon said. "This guy spends his free time sleeping. I'm Sam by the way," sabi ni Sam. "Nice to meet you," sabi ni Devon. "Hey Lauren," sabi ni Sam with a huge smile. "Hey," ani ni Lauren. "You guys know each other?" tanong ni Ivan sa kaibigan. "Yup, we meet at the library before," sabi ni Sam. "Well, this is Kyra and Lauren, my best friends. Guys, this is Ivan, and Sam," pagpapakilala ni Devon. They chatted a bit. Sam asked, "So... where are you girls going?" "Ah. We thought about getting some ice cream..." sagot ni Lauren sa tanong ng binata. "Can we come with you?" tanong ni Ivan. "Sure," sagot ni Kyra with a smile. "Kay gwapo naman ni Ivan," isip ni Kyra.

Meanwhile, James was strolling around the mall with Ann. Ann said that she was drunk that night that's why she kissed another guy. James loved her, so he belived her. "Huh?" James murmured. "Hon, what's wrong?" Ann said, batting her eyelashes. "Nothing," James replied. He thought he saw Ivan and Sam with Devon and her friends, pero inisip na lang nya na namalik-mata lang sya.

"So, I will order for you guys, what do you want?" tanong ni Ivan. "You'll treat us dude?" tanong ni Sam, playfully. "Hmmmm.... sure, as a mark of new found friendship," sabi ni Ivan with a smile. "Haha. Well.... I want a Triple Caramel Chunk," sabi ni Sam. "A Chunky Monkey for me," sabi ni Lauren. "I want a Mint Chocolate," sabi naman ni Kyra. "Hmmm.... a Chocolate Macadamia for me," sabi naman ni Devon. Ivan went to the counter to order and Sam went to help him carry the cones. "They're so nice and funny," sabi ni Lauren. "Oo nga. Pero Lo, masyado kang halata. Kanina ka pa nakatitig kay Sam eh..." sabi ni Kyra with a giggle. "Di ah....." Lauren said, blushing. "Uy...nagblush sya," pang-aasar pa ni Devon. "Di ah. I don't blush," sabi ni Lauren sabay hawak sa cheeks nya."Uh huh. Girl sobrang kapani-paniwala ka," Kyra said sarcasticly.Hinampas ni Lauren si Kyra lightly. "Free Ice cream delivery," sabi ni Sam habang inaabot ang dalang ice-cream cones. "Thank you," sabi ng mga girls. Sam sat besides Lauren, who sat eside Kyra, who sat beside Ivan. Devon was left with no other choice but to sit between Ivan and Sam.

Meanwhile, Ann was whining. She said she wants to eat some ice cream. "Sure hon. Let's go," like a puppy, James followed Ann's orders.
